LEARN HOW TO BEFRIEND GOD
To always have quick access to the throne of God, to have our prayers answered, learn how to befriend God. To befriend God, we need to learn how to adore Him whose power has no limit, whose power is the total power; He whose power is beyond the boundary of human language.
In the book of Psalm 42 vs. 1, the Psalmist says,
“As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.”
We need to learn how to pant after God. Even though David was already a King, he still dropped his position and went after God. The word ‘panteth’ means to crave and to hunger after God. You need to desire the presence of God more than anything else. You need to long after God because He alone holds what you are looking for; only Him can go to the bank of satan and snatch back your money that is in satan’s hand. God is the only one that can restore all the enemy has stolen from you.
The greatest in life is to find out what you can do to befriend the great God. In the book of John 15 vs. 14, the Bible says,
“Ye are my friends, if ye do whatever I command you.”
The Bible is simply saying that you will obey God if you say you are His friend. Paul said in 1st Thessalonians. 2 vs. 10,
“Ye are witnesses and God also, how holily and justly and unblamably we behaved ourselves among you that believe.”
Paul had behaved justly and holily and unblamably. We need to be able to say this for ourselves. Christianity is all about character and character is what you are in the absence of the crowd. What you do with your leisure hour. When you become a friend of God, He will fight your battles for you.
You need to know that purity is power. Ask God to help you deal with the weakness of your father’s house so that weakness would not destroy you. In Genesis 32 vs. 24 – 28, the Bible says,
“And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. And he said, Let me go; for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel; for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.”
Jacob wrestled with God and God changed things for him. Only a man who knows what God can do would desire to live a holy life so that he can please God and God will bless him. This God is present everywhere and His eyes deals with mankind. He is the greatest physician and greatest provider. Peter must have been dazzled when God gave Him two-trailer load of fishes. In the book of Job 22 vs. 23 – 29, the Bible says,
“If thou return to the Almighty, thou shalt be built up; thou shalt put away iniquity very far from thy tents. Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the brooks. Yea, the Almighty shall be thy defense, and thou shalt have plenty of silver. For then shalt thou have thy delight in the Almighty, and shalt lift up thy face unto God. Though shalt make thy prayer unto him, and he shall hear thee, and thou shalt pay thy vows. Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee; and the light shall shine upon thy ways. When men are cast down; then thou shalt say, there is lifting up, and he shall save the humble person. He shall deliver the island of the innocent; and it is delivered by the pureness of thine hands”.
God said if you return to Him, He will cause you to create wealth as dust. He will cause you to have plenty of silver. Failure to relate to God is failure in all the areas of life. Failure to befriend God is to be prone to the enemies attack. You, plus Jesus is more than one hundred and fifty trillion demons. Failure to befriend God and relate to Him is failure in every area of your life.
There is nothing as powerful as relationship. If you know the president of the country, you will know his hotlines. The same way, if you know the governor of your state, you can walk into His bedroom and chat with Him. John 15 vs. 14 says,
“Ye are my friends, if you do whatever I command you.”
God has offered His friendship only to the godly. A friend is someone that can step on your toes without removing your shine. A friend is one that likes you. A friend is someone whom when you have messed up yourself, will still love you. A friend is that person that would not leave you when everybody has abandoned you. A friend is someone that when you are in need, he will give up all he needs to make sure that your need is supplied. A friend is greater and better than a brother and the greatest under the sun is to make God your friend. God is the great Jehovah; ‘I am that I am.’ Whatever you want, that is what He is. Do you want to live long life that is what He will give you. Do you want a child; He is Jehovah Jireh, your Provider. Do you want that your Pharaoh to become your servant that is what he will do for you. Whatever your need is, God will use that need to reveal Himself to you. If you are sick, he wants to show you that He is the greatest Physician. If you are bound, He wants to show you He is a great Deliverer.
Befriending God is one of the powerful things we need to do. Of all things in this life, what you need most is to befriend God. You have the power of choice. You can choose life and you can choose death, you can choose to have God have your companion. If God is on your side, your enemies are in trouble. Only God can fight your enemies, you need to discover the need and urgency of having Jesus as your friend. He takes away our sickness, our sins, and our disgrace and turns our lamentation into laughter.
Jesus is the greatest friend anyone can have because he does not penalize us for our past or label us, locking us into it forever. Knowing the worst about us, He still believes the best. If you are a friend of God, He will step into every battle of your life and bring that your long desired miracle to you.
